Anti-Icing and De-Icing Mats
Specifically Designed for Maritime Vessels Operating in Challenging Climates
Our Arctic Mat is a heavy duty modular surface heating system developed to improve upon current offshore anti-icing and de-icing methods. The mat has no moving parts and requires virtually no maintenance while providing a number of key advantages when compared to typical heat trace, including:
- Improved Heat Distribution
- Excellent Traction
- High Stress & Impact Tolerance
- Easy Installation
Anti-Icing and De-Icing Mats
Specifically Designed for Maritime Vessels Operating in Challenging Climates
When energized via low-voltage current, the heating core of StableHeat’s Arctic Pad automatically adjusts to changing conditions with the need of any specialized controls. As ambient temperatures drop, for example, the heating core contracts microscopically and the number of electrical paths between the bus wires increase precisely where the additional heat is needed. Conversely, as those same outside temperatures rise, the core expands to reduce the number of paths, thereby producing less heat.
The most important element in providing a non-slip solution is the ability to provide the correct traction profile for a particular scenario. As such each of our designs offers the best traction available. These profiles are molded as part of the pad(s) and are augmented by the aluminum oxide within the non-skid coating.

Additional design options include:
- Beveled Edge: Smooth transitions between flooring surfaces
- Color: Choose a color (ideal for hazard zones)
- Labeling or Text: Emboss information directly onto the pads
- Logo: Emboss company branding or safety symbols
- Photo: Luminiscent markers for glow-in-the-dark applications

Line voltage is limited only to the power-supply location, while the heating elements installed beneath decks, walls and other surfaces operate at low voltage (24V AC or DC), a huge safety advantage compared to conventional systems operating at 120V, 208V, or 240V. Additionally, because the element covers a large area with a low temperature, expansion and contraction are largely limited.
Marine-grade tinned-copper conductors, water-resistant insulation, and sealed electrical connections combine to limit the oxidation and corrosion typically associated with the marine environment’s high levels of salt, humidity, and moisture.
StableHeat is an ETL Listed system independently tested and evaluated by Intertek for compliance with recognized electrical safety standards. Our radiant heating system conforms to UL 1693 and power-supply and transformer components conform to applicable UL 5085 and CSA requirements. We’ve also received an American Bureau of Shipping Certificate of Design Assessment. Together, these third-party evaluations provide architects, engineers, shipbuilders and owners with recognized support for the system’s design and electrical safety.
Vessel weight and available space matter on every vessel. The StableHeat element is flat, flexible and only approximately 1.2 millimeters (3/64 inch) thick. It adds minimal weight and floor buildup and can be incorporated beneath a wide range of finished surfaces without significantly affecting doors, cabinets, transitions or headroom. The flexible element can also be cut to length and configured around the contours and dimensional constraints of the vessel.
StableHeat is installed directly beneath or behind targeted surfaces. So instead of wastefully heating open spaces where heat naturally rises, we heat just the surfaces you want warmed, protected, or deiced. This is particularly valuable in marine environments where exposure to the elements and limited insulation can lead to substantial heating loss.
Different areas of a vessel do not always need heat at the same time or at the same temperature. StableHeat can be divided into independently controlled zones, allowing heat to be directed only to the areas where and when it is needed. This supports more precise onboard energy management and avoids operating a large centralized system to deliver heat to one occupied space.
Our heating elements automatically respond to surrounding temperatures, generating higher output when surfaces are cold and reducing output when areas warm. The self-regulating design supports even surface temperatures, reduces unnecessary power use, and limits consumption when the full installed surface plane functions as a thermal radiant layer.
The ultra-thin, lightweight design dramatically reduces the time and costs associated with installation while also introducing enormous flexibility to installation options. StableHeat arrives in large rolls that can easily be cut into specific lengths and wrapped around railings and other curved surfaces.
